Captains Log: Day One

Greetings ,
The time has come. Yes I now blog. I am a blogger, I let the computer do most of the work but yes, I am a blogger. This is a breakthrough for me, after all I have the vocabulary of a 6 yr old. That is why I am typing this really slow so everyone can keep up.

I have recently obtained a knew hobby; fly rod building. Yes, I have decided that between dog training, wife tending, backpacking, fishing and hunting I needed something else to fill my time. I was at a local fly shop looking around and saw a "Build Your Own Fly Rod Class" flier. That was it. The missing link. The key to my heart. It said to inquire within. So I did.

Stephen(a "pro staff member"), told me tale of the journey of fly rod building and how it was fraught with peril and danger. So I said, " Sign me up!" Good thing it wasn't a marine recruiter or I would have some splaining to do.

In my fishing adventures I have converted to ultralight fishing tackle. For 2 reasons:1) I don't fish big water enough to want to carry around big poles and 2) I love catching big fish on light tackle. So I asked if I could build a 2 wt rod for the class and the teacher said that would be fine. (FYI-a 2 wt rod is a tiny, baby, little fly rod mostly for smaller creeks; i.e. Piru, Lockwood, San Gabriel. Places like that). It toke some thinking and some work but I finally finished my first rod. The Piru Punisher. I named it that because I have been really putting in a lot of time on Piru Creek and this is the perfect rod for the job. With out further adieu may I present...
